A teenager was found dead in a bed with blood on her face in unexplained circumstances.
Brooke Tuhakaraina, 19, was discovered by a friend lying in bed at her home near Perth in Australia on Wednesday morning.
Detectives have launched an investigation into her death as they await results of an autopsy.
Police officers say the circumstances surrounding her death cannot yet be explained.
Brooke, who was originally from New Zealand, had been working in western Australia for the past year.
Posting on Facebook, her family said they are “devastated.”
The post read: “It is with much sadness that we inform you of the passing of their daughter Brooke Tuhakaraina, 19 years old.
“She has been working in Australia for the last 12 months or so.
“We are all devastated at this time.”
According to neighbours, Ms Tuhakaraina was sharing the property she lived in with workers from a local shearing company.
Contractor Mike Henderson said the teenager was found by a member of staff in the home.
He told The West Australian: “She was a wool handler, a nice kid.
“She was only 19 and she worked for me for a couple of months.”
Her death happened in a small crayfishing town called Port Denison, which has been marred by tragedy in the past.
In 2011 a mother killed her two daughters before taking her own life in the town which has a population of around 3,000.
Police setup a crime scene surrounding the house after the teenager was found, with neighbours saying people who lived there were “constantly coming and going.”
